Fantastic presentation by Professor Varon on Longstreet
Participants at the December 17th Forum meeting were treated to a Tour de Force presentation on General Longstreet which highlighted the strikingly unusual path of this former right-hand-man of Robert E. Lee, as Longstreet post-Appomattox did an incredible ‘about-face’ and became a dedicated ally of President Grant and a leader of the Louisiana Republican Party (which included significantly Black participation).

Howard Rosenthal
Very sadly we learned of the death of Howard Rosenthal, at the age of 85, on Thursday Sept 26, 2024 following a heart attack at his home the night before. We who were close to the Rosenthals have already voiced our condolences to Phyllis.
David W. Blight Wins 2019 William H. Seward Award
The Civil War Forum was honored to present its 2019 William H. Seward Award for Excellence in Civil War Biography to David W. Blight for his 2018 book, Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom, the 2019 recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in History.
