Howard Rosenthal
Jim Santagata was one of those who joined Howard and Phyllis in 2009 in forming the CWFMNY. Since then, both of them have served tirelessly and selflessly on our Board, each of them serving for seemingly countless terms as either President or Program Director, or simply doing anything else that had to be done! But this is only the "smaller half" of what they have done for the CWFMNY! For many years, the annual Battlefield Tour was THE crowning Team Rosenthal production! Those of us who took part, of which there are, sadly, a constantly dwindling number still living today, we will always carry absolutely unforgettable memories of those years. That is why Jim selected the following photo, taken on May 21, 2011, during our very first 3 day Battlefield Tour, to Stonewall Jackson's Shenandoah Valley, to include here as a fitting tribute to Howard. There he stands, smiling brightly and deservedly proud in the second row! Recently departed friend Nathan Burkan stands to his right, the inimitable Charley Schwarz stands directly in front of both of them, our very first President David Kinard stands directly behind Howard, and Paul Windells, another departed former President of the CWFMNY, stands in the center of the back row, wearing sunglasses. And for final mention, Jim saved Phyllis, standing there with a bright smile 2nd from the left in the front row!
This is truly a "single photo history" of the CWFMNY! And I'm sure that THIS is the way Howard would most want to be remembered, well, at least right after husband, father and grandpa! It all begins with an idea.
